I find the instant Coffee brands not to my liking. The only way I can down a mug of that stuff is with the help of biscuits or sandwich. I was thinking I got me one of those Bamix blenders which has a grinding unit. I was thinking maybe I could get a french press and start buying Coffee beans it could work right?

Yes.

I find that the coffee made in a percolator tastes vile (no matter how fresh) and espresso machines are also awesome as long as you're patient :)

If you really enjoy your coffee, I would suggest looking at the Aeropress. Absolutely brilliant.

That's quite a sweeping statement.

I got a single cup french press at work and its the best thing ever.

Yes, Jacobs and Douwe are good but even they get old after a while.

However this is the best thing ever... its quite expensive but makes expresso like a machine.

I like having variety...doing the same thing over and over again eventually tastes like **** anyway.

So during the day I do the Nescafe instant stuff at the office, then I have a Nespresso at home as well as a Moka pot and then also a French press.

Variety is the spice of life.

You tried:

I can't drink instant coffee, no matter what brand. I've tried them all. They leave a rancid taste in the back of my throat.

Problem with French presses is they always break. Then you've got a helluva challenge to replace the glass or just buy a new one. We had a lovely 8 cup Bodum press and then someone was washing it in the sink and shook it upside down to clear the grounds and it came out and shattered. They are a much superior option to filter coffee and ANYTHING is better than instant.

Aeropress is definitely worth looking at. They are very forgiving on the granularity of the beans so you don't need to get a precisely flat press for a decent shot.

I have this... take it anywhere:

Its awesome.

Also have the ceramic le Crouset one... can break but stronger than glass.

I bought a 10 or 12 cup Cafetiere from Boardmans and it works fine. But, I also grind my own beans and I find that there is a fine line between too coarse (no flavour) and too fine (pushes through the filter and ends up in your coffee.)

I would mainly use it to entertain now. Grinding the coffee, leaving it to brew, pressing it and making frothy milk is too much effort for my daily use, so I bought a KMix Filter Coffee maker as it is a bit less cumbersome.

French press is boring.
I have a Bodum Vacuum Press at home.
Makes the best coffee ever. but the top is cracked, and I can't find a replacement.

Just referred GF to thread - she wants to know if that thing can go on the GAS stove to stay warm. Any idea?

SORRY - EDIT - I got her message half wrong. I left out the word GAS - you must think I'm an idiot.
