Been with MTN more than 8 years now.

I'm really loosing my confidence in MTN. Currently have this issue with coverage in the Randburg, Sandton and Illovo area. Coverage helpdesk have no idea when will all the "updates" be complete and meanwhile for last week been convinced to start with some swearing.
It would be easier to blame the phone but i've confirmed that this is not the problem.

The quality of MTN signal really started deteriorating and it is really dissapointing. This is really turning into moments of "network rage"

Grapevine is also starting to speculate on the service of MTN.

Any input?

Also been having issues of late. But had similar issues on vodacom too.

Maybe MTN is too busy focusing on Africa then SA. Sucks though.

+1 on MTN reception issues - in Benoni and sorry to tell you this but this has been going for 2 years plus!

Network upgrades are understandable. They could, however, send a courtesy SMS to alert users to the fact that some delayed gratification will eventually result in some pain for pleasure.

Having to phone in and deal with the Morons (the "M" in MTN) on helpline to discover the cause of the issue is not a good way to keep your customers happy.

Can they not send SMSes to users of specific base stations?

All this in addition to the new, and substantially less improved, contracts will see me depart come the end of my contract in April.

Pity. It has also been around 8 years...

Have received 3 sms's promising that the new improved base station is imminent - more than a year ago.

Trouble is are the other cell providers any better?

Not really, i moved from vodacom to mtn. pretty much the same crap.

Had the situation yesterday, where a family member had an emergency.

I was in Illovo and member was in Randburg. Could not phone her via my cell (Full signal bars, with constant "Call ended").

Tried via landline and gues what! She had MTN so no getting through to her.

Has anyone had maybe feedback on the networks being so unstable?

Call centre still has no idea when coverage problem will be fixed and it looks like MTN is holding total blackout on this one.

Even on Hellopeter all complaints with this regard are ignored / not answered.

EDGE is starting to feel worse than standard GPRS, nevermind GPRS+. Was considering taking a contract out. Luckily I was hesitant ....

I guess I'm just lucky. Never have any problems at all with mtn

I have been with mtn since 2000 . I don't really like mtn , i changed to contract in 2002 thinkin better service. The only thing cool about mtn unlike cell c or vodacom you get registered to network in speed time and you can use the data service all most immediatly (pay as you go). I hate their contract policy . My contract was up like 1 year and some months ago and i phoned them to let them know listen i do not want to renew my contract . So they let me kn over the phone you have to fax them in writing . Which was ok with me . But then they checked my details and informed me that i still had couple months left for it to expire . So i waited thinking im going to get a reply letting me when my contract was up . I never did . 5 months later i phone them to let them i want to cancel my contract . They said i couldn't . My contract expiry date had finish . So my contracted was renew automaticly with out my concent , . I got nothing in the mail nothing via sms , email . And i was told there was nothing i they could do. Which sucks . And next year im totally going to cancel it i pay something 670 rands a month inc charges . When your contract is up . A service provider should inform you in writing /sms/email about the contract being up. I don't even get the montly invoices although i have request it many times . Pay as you go is 100 times better.
