Is Mweb overstating capped account usage?

We have a capped 7.5GB account.
Over the last few months the MWeb usage tracker is showing huge usage of 2 or more GB's per day where before 7.5GB would last a month.
The firewall stats shows no heavy usage and there is no WiFi on the router. I have also changed the ADSL password just in case someone else has been using the account.

If I use SASA Adsl analyser it more correctly shows about 10MB usage during the same period that Mweb is showing 2GB usage.

I am having to buy top ups every second day and its costing a fortune.

Can anyone shed any light as to whats going on??

SASA is useless for double-checking, since it relies on the information given on the ISP's website.

Get something like NetLimiter 2 Monitor (which you might have to install with WinXP compatibility) to accurately monitor your Internet usage on your PC
or better yet, use PRTG Traffic Grapher to monitor the Internet traffic passing through your router (which would be the total for all the PC's in your house), but this requires an ADSL modem/router with SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) support.

First. Go change your ADSL password.. not your router password.

If they hacked your router before, and got your DSL details, they don't need to log onto your router again.

Once password for account is changed, let me know if your usage is still sky-rocket high.

Oh, and your router password, make sure it contains non-dictionary words, and includes numbers and special characters.

It was the ADSL account password that I changed, the router password was changed from its default some time ago.
I changed the ADSL account password yesterday and still more than 2GB usage in less than a day.
If SASA uses the info from the ISP's website then why is it reporting much lower usage than Mweb?

Double check with Mweb, ask them to look at the logs and tell you what exactly your account is consuming.

Perhaps you might have a Virus/Spyware/Malware on your computer. If you able to, turn off your computer for 24 hours, the following day check your stats and see what it says...

Otherwise buy a prepaid GB from somewhere if you cant turn off you PC, that way you are not using Mweb & should also be able to show if you're really using all that data or not.
