Hi there,

I want to see what you people think. I want to start using this Backup Solution for client.
Its a basic PC loaded with linux OS and a raid controller running raid one... So its mirrored data.
Everyday at 4pm I want the client PC's and server to copy important data to this PC.

does this make is 100% secure, so no data would ever be lost?
Any advice?

Thank you :)

100% secure I wouldn't say

Can you get an identical replacement RAID controller if this one died? And of course RAID1 is fine till 1 disk dies,at that moment your array is endangered till a replacement is built as a second disk failure could quite possibly kill the array :P

What about offsite backups?
Will the client be able to get data back from 2 weeks ago or just yesterday?

What happens if the data corrupts on the main server and you backup the corrupted data?

How about adding a additional external HDD to the server as another backup medium. Oh, look at ClearOS.

OK yes I see, if it backs up corrupt data there will be problems. What can I do to get around this then? Are there any 100% safe method doing this???

Daily/weekly tape/harddrive rotation or snapshot backups

Backuppc

We use backuppc on a Linux server that's great at doing incremental and full backups. It's easy to setup, has a great Web interface, it's free and after you've set it up you can almost forget about it as it will email you if there's any issues.
