Hi everybody
About 2 years ago I moved into a new house. It came to my attention there was a physical copper line installed to our house there is a telkom box with one wire going in and 2 ports that look like ethernet ports/phone jacks?? After phoning telkom they said I need to get the reference number from our landlord but he says he doesn't have it. I would like to get the line activated so that I can get adsl in our household. Anybody have an idea of how to go about doing this???
Thanks in advance

Is the phone line active? Plug a phone into the jack and find out. I wouldn't see why you would need to involve the landlord unless this is the case. If the line is no longer active you just have to order a new service on your name.

Ok if I can dial telkoms number and it rings it means the line is active. So they will just need the phone number and I can activate it on my name?

Are you paying a monthly fee of about R140.00 excluding VAT and excluding telephone calls?

If you are not, that means you are not the owner of the line and you probably won't be able to answer the security questions that they are going to ask you.

I think only the line owner can add those services.

So once I have the number I can just apply for an adsl line?

Only if you applied for the voice line. If the current line that is installed is still active only the account holder of that line will be able to order ADSL on it. If the line is disconnected and no longer active then you just apply for an entire new service. I suppose you could do that even if there is an active existing line, they would just put another physical line in.

I dunno if the line is even active

And if the line is inactive I can take over it by applying for a new service or am I forced to have a new line installed
