Is my pool pump dying ?

How do u test a capacitor with a multimeter?

Seeing as it's mains voltage I would only measure the voltage coming out of the capacitor or check if there is a short but then the capacitor would have failed already. If you're more adventurous you need to put a known resistor before the capacitor and measure after the capacitor. Small electronic capacitors you simply stick into the multimeter or a lcr meter.

so it did it again

but there is a buzzing sound coming from the DB board switch

is that a wire issue or the DB switch at fault ? or could be both

That buzzing sound might be arcing from a loose wire. Remove the cover and see if you see anything glowing. With the power off you might want to check the screws if they are tight on the circuit breakers.

letting it run now a little as it switched on so will check later if i can see anything

i suck at doing DIY so wont attempt as just now i blow up the house

buddy says we must just change it one time

yeah i think let me continue to monitor it before i spend money and if its going to be less than r500 im fine with that

i was just stressing adn think here i must spend few grand and its summer time

kids using the pool cos cpt weather changed for the good now
Do It sooner rather than later

Can jump start it too with a flat screwdriver

Switch on if it humms give it a clockwise turn at the back and then it will spin up

If you leave it too long on the humm it can cause the windings to get hot and fuse together then it becomes useless

If you have an electronic timer
The relays inside it has popped
So the buzzing you hear is the relay trying to pop on unable to

They tend to pop in one of two ways , this or the battery dies and you have to reset the time regularly

If you want to discern pump or timer , just remove the live wire of pump on timer and place on one of the breakers direct

If the pump comes on problem free repeatedly replace the timer

Sounds fun. OR, he can do the responsible thing and measure the output of the timer with a multimeter and not risk lighting up like a christmas tree.

Often many don't have a tester

Pool db tends to have a main breaker that breaks live+neutral

So switching that off means no need to pull down the main breaker of the house

And as long as you stay away from the top of that main breaker you are good

I am 100% certain the problem is the timer if you hear the buzz from db

But as breakers get old they can sing too hence why suggesting test as i did

Those electronic timers with the blue/orange buttons i have heard quite a few with the buzz
All different brands

I'm being sarcastic in respect of the rather flippant instruction. Remove the live wire and touch it to one of the breakers? Come now.

By place i did not mean touch it i meant attach but yea , i see that place was a bad choice of word

ie switch off main breaker

Remove wire going to pump from timer, attach it to the bottom of the breaker that says pump

Now when you switch on the main breaker you will be able to at least run the pump manually until you get a new timer
