Is my router packing up? [SOLVED]

Quick update:
I removed the router and packed it in the cupboard shortly after this thread. Didn't talk to it. Didn't feed it. Didn't bathe it. I just gave it some time to think about what it had done.
Installed it 2 days ago and all is well again. Getting 6 to 7 MB/s transfer speeds all of a sardine.
What I did notice was that my router had been hacked - the vulnerability with the support username and password being standard was my issue, and someone had gone in and changed DNS settings. They were obviously using my router for urgent, legitimate business purposes and I forgive them for that.
So there you have it. DJ's step by step solution to fixing your router:
Step 1: ignore it for a few months
Step 2: reinstall it
Step 3: hold thumbs
