I have a Mecer LCD TV. It has Component and HDMI inputs. How do I know if I will still need a DTB?
If not, can I plug the antenna into the DVD Recorder and then to the TV HDMI plug?
I am not worried about HD at this early stage only analogue to digital conversion.

You can plug in a digital signal however you still need the Digital Tuner that receives the digital broadcast.

Surely that will be in your user's manual. Look at the specs page, see if they mention a digital tuner or receiver. If they don't then you don't have a TV but a monitor and you'll need to get a digital terrestrial receiver OR
you can plug in a DSTV decoder.

From what I know, and my very brief research on the topic...

If you've bought a TV even today, the chances of it being digital ready are about as close to 0% as is possible... I have YET to see a digital ready TV for sale in this country. Plus even if they are available, whose to say they'll work since we don't know what half-arsed standard the DoC are going to attempt to use and screw up the implementation of.

Sounds crazy to me. Full HD TV's have been available for some time but will only be operating fully in 5 years time. Digital transmission will be operating within 2 months and NO TV's available for it.

Wonder if the DVD Recorder has digital receiver?

Digital transmission started already with DSTV - 10 years ago. However, yes terrestrial broadcasts will commence in 2 months but that doesn't mean they will do away with analog broadcasts for many years. The brilliant 1080P TV you may buy now will be bottom of the barrel in terms of contrast, vibriance,
response, brightness and colour reproduction in that time.

You can enjoy fully digital picture today using DSTV.

Cannot buy DStv as I am emigrating in December.
