I have been reading through the many comments and Complaints!

I need to know if it going to be worth my while to move to Neotel.

I have IBURST at the moment and to tell you the truth I am very happy with it I can play mmprog games on it no problem do VPN support check emails and Download the od file here and there

To tell the truth I am very happy with the service it has not given me any serious problems and the latency and speeds.

I need to make a decision!

my dad got neotel about a month ago.
and he is very happy with it.
exept for them not phoning you back he says its very good.
went from vc 3g to neotel prime....

See if you can "borrow" a device first. I'm on Prime and very happy, I cannot tell you if Lite is good.

I do have iBubbles and not impressed with it. I guess its all about location.

Ok I was actually curious to know if anyone has used it for online games I currently play perfect world on a Malaysian server with no lag at all..

I have a 100% Signal strength here!

I don’t know anyone that has a premium device to lend!

I don’t want to bind myself to something that is not going to be very good! If you know what I mean.

I heard that apparently Neotel shapes its ports and bandwidth aggressively. Is that true?

Neotel is completely unshaped. All incoming ports are closed though. All it takes is 1 email to et them opened though.

My advice on the issue is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Or maybe, rather the devil you know, than the one you don't.

What are you paying for iburst at the moment? I think Neotel Prime will outperform it by a margin if you have good coverage, if the price gap is HUGE i say take a chance i'm sure they will let you test the device for a day or two before signing.

Are you taking iburst or Neotel as the more expensive company?

Neotel high end packages are worth it. Not the low end ones.

I have the 449 Rand per month 3 gigabyte package i see it compares to neotels 5 gig premium package I expected it to be a lot cheaper. And I already own an Iburst desktop modem TBH it’s a tough decision!! Iburst works well for me and I am worried that I could experience problems!

If you get wireless internet it's all about location.

I have the same question, but a bit different. I currently have a Telkom 4096kbps line, using about 15Gig a month, so costing me about R 1970 per month. I'd like to switch the Neotel uncapped, but I need the speed.

I'm in the Bellville area, does anyone know what the average download speed is.....currently I have about 450kbps, if the website downloading from is decent....

What is the price on Neotel's product, for the same or better speed and cap?

Reliability is extremely important, it's for a business that's on their knees when offline....

Neotels fastest uncapped is neotel prime unlimited for R999 at 2.4mbps

Yes, the connection will be that fast, but the actual speeds differ. obviously. I heard a rumour that a guy in Cape Town got about 700 kilo bytes p/s, is this possible?

2.4mbps should give you about 292 KBps maximum....not?

Best obviously to just test one, don't know if Neotel in Bellville will lend or send a tech. out to test, before signing a contract...

2.4mbps will give you a maximum download speed of 307.2 kBps using the notation that 1024 is kilo. Ref: http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc

By default Neotel is not shaped, only port blocked.
I checked which ports I used for my various applications and called into the customer service center, requested for a service ticket to only open the ports I requested and was seen to the next day. Thats it :)

To answer your question steve-af-
Yes Neotel is worth it, for me that is.
1. Uncapped - I am able to download, educate and explore with hardly any limitations.
2. Speeds are not as great as I previously had on other ISP's but I have more consistent service and alot less downtime that I experienced on other ISP's.

I would rather have a tortoise that keeps on going than have to keep topping up my bunny rabbit with expensive Duracell's.

My advice to any new potential Neotel customers, don't sign up now, wait a few weeks and keep track of their new packages that will be on offer.

Use a month to month package for a few months before you sign a
2 year contract with Neotel.

It looks like we are going to have better choices next year.

Thanx for this thread :) I found it a bit hard to locate the packages Neotel offered on their website. They should have more accurate marketing instead of being so vague about the prices.

Ok i just visited their site again and i could not locate the link where they have their packages on offer to the public :/ Thats realy dissappointing

www.neotel.co.za

Ok i managed to find it. Neotel->MyHome->link to download tarrifs.

I would expect the packages to be displayed on the front page since thats the market they are going for, or that realy matters.

im also going to try and get neotel, will neotel lend a device so that i can check how the speed and latencies are? i dont want to sign my soul away for 2 years...

IMHO the lack of info on expected service from Neotel is their biggest downfall at the moment. No one official can tell you a darn thing usefull about it from everything I have read.

Too much uncertainty in so far as latency and coverage makes it a stupid decision.

:/
