Is Nutella a dessert or a jam?

It's a butter not a jam. The person who wrote the article is a moron

1kg jar anyone?
No matter the size of the jar, Nutella only last a maximum of ten days in my house

It's main ingredient is now vegetable oil. It's changed the last two decades for the worst.

Rather don't do it.

according to my kids... it is an entire food group all of its own... and a perfectly balanced meal when eaten directly out of the jar...

Ingredients:

SUGAR, PALM OIL, HAZELNUTS, SKIM MILK, COCOA

so definitely not a jam of any description. Probably a spread, or maybe a butter, like other emulsified nuts are called 'butters'.

Jam is made by boiling sugar and fruit of some sort until it reaches setting point around 104 degrees C, at which point it becomes semi-solid.
Here's a recipe for making your own Nutella:
http://littlespicejar.com/homemade-nutella/
and it doesn't involve any boiling or reaching a 'gel' stage. I haven't tried it.

Did you buy that in South Africa, Bwana? We bought that size a while back, but in the UK. Biggest I have seen here is about 650g or so, twice the size of the usual size.
Tesco. :)

It's a hazelnut flavoured chocolate flavoured sugar-laden oil doused Spread that tastes like Diabetes.
