No, not the same, but better than nothing.

Everything works so much better, if used or done, correctly.
Definitely. Look I'm privileged that my daughter is at a school that is able to migrate to online when face up face is not possible and grateful that she is able to continue

Would prefer her AT school though rather than online and I know that she feels the same as well

For an adult such myself, with self-discipline and knowledge on much education costs, then online is really great. Can work in classes according to work and life schedules etc.

For a young child, who would rather YouTube/Netflix etc., sitting in front of a device and expecting them to actually study for any period of time is nonsensical. I do not have the time as a parent to constantly monitor what my kids are doing and assist with the online learning - it ends being a lot more effort from both child and parent to have learning happening and long term it is exhausting.

Teachers study at Diploma and Degree level to get the skills required to teach - it's a job that I suck at and I'm pretty sure most parents do as well. Online does not work for kids

Parents are too used to offloading their kids schooling to schools, with their minimal involvement. Then maintain that minimal involvement model at home, and expect the kids to do great, with online teaching.

Not really a black and white matter as there are aspects where its better and others where it suffers. The actual education is rounded by applying those different aspects to create a holistic solution.

Age is also a huge factor.

It depends, for something like physics / maths / comp sci, you need both.

For non-abstract problem solving, or linear learning, online is fine.

The second you hit abstract concepts, or learning where a concept has no context (let's say you're trying to learn calculus, by yourself) a piece of text or a video might imprint the simplified context, but that might not be enough for you to "get it"

This is where a human would step in.

misclicked and landed here.. um i'd say less for kids inclasses below grade 4-5

No and Yes:
It depends if you are a critical soul that can think on your feet but need knowledge not to re-invent the wheel, and teach yourself in the process, as soon as you can point to faults in lectures you on your way. In practise, away from theory it will force you in directions as you gain EXPERIENCE which is different from THEORY as you will find out as you go.

The other thing is do you have money to buy yourself experience, or do you have to wait for a job to have acess-?

My son did Zoom classes for a large part of his schooling last year and I would constantly catch him playing games in the background. He had alt-tab down to fine art. He is definitely more disciplined at school as he knows his teacher doesn't take any nonsense. I was honestly surprised that his grades didn't slip. Actual school is far better for him.

I have done online correspondence learning before and enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to deal with transportation to the venue, carry my study material, etc. It was nice to just begin the lessons from home.
To me the studying, classroom engagement was the same as if I was in lecture halls. But I'm an adult and not a child in primary/high school. They have shorter attention spans and less discipline. I still voted "as effective" because I assume the kids have support from their parents, and I assume they're tech savvy
