Is Rain 4G good in Parys?

Thanks everything set up and working, eh, for the money, this 4G isn't worth it, you can tell it's old tech. Will be using as a gap while I wait for Afrihost fiber to maybe one day decide they want to install my line.

When I checked their 4G in my area (going back approx 4 or 5 years), yes, there were numerous Rain towers nearby.

When I tested the service twice, a few years apart, I got less than 1 Mbps down + up even when @rain_mobile at the time tried to help improve on it.

With Rain in particular, I don't think that because one has towers available, it'll necessarily mean a worthwhile experience - as evidenced by @BlackStatic 's reply today.

I'm very far from an expert on all this, but don't think it has to do with the fact it's old tech.

Generally very satisfied with the LTE I have through "fixed" Telkom (see screenshot) - feel it has more to do with Rain's setup ; seem to have had similar results to you with Rain, but I never carried on with them beyond the (7 day) trial.

Afrihost as ISP would sell you the fibre service, but won't physically get it into your house as they're not an FNO like Frogfoot, Vumatel, Openserve etc.

Contact Herotel to see if they'll do anything where you are, as both FNO + ISP, to my knowledge.

Impressive, I'm barely getting more than 10mbps on this thing despite being pretty much full signal, maybe they have hyper congestion or sub rent from other mobile service providers and have to cut the throughput to as low as possible, who knows, it's pretty crappy, horrible at this price, but whatever.

They likely fully focus on their 5G service which is sadly not in this region. Will be giving the router to family who are moving to an area with 5G coverage, paying someone >R500 pm for dodgy 10mbps 4G is just silly.

I wouldn't bet in any 5G expansion beyond a few key areas, once Starlink comes online proper in the local market it won't make financial sense to even try to compete in wireless outside of a few cities.

Doubtful if Starlink will setup properly in SA from what I've read up to this point, unless you or others have additional info to relate.

Yeah, nah, put in cancellation, if you're in the Vaal area, especially Parys, buyer beware. This poor tower is so knocked up and over-sold with congestion you'll barely get internet, I have no idea how these guys get away with operating like this, unbelievable. You won't even get under 200ms ping to a LOCAL server either, it's completely busted.
