Hi All,

I am looking at the Unlimited Home 5G Standard for R699.

I stay in Randburg, Linden.

I have never used this service. Are they good? Are they reliable? How long does it take to get internet activated?

I need constant internet and can not afford any down time as I work from home and need to stay connected on video calls and while working.

Sorry if this has been asked. Please direct me to a thread this has been covered in my area.

I would stick with that. That rain 5g can be iffy and its very dependent on where you live, but maybe someone who has it in your area can comment on the speed.

This^

I've had rain since about March and it's been flawless. Fibre got connected in May and I took that as my primary connection,, now Rain is my backup

I've had absolutely no issues (speed, billing, support) with it but there definitely is a large number that have had endless issues, some as close as 500m from where I stay...

If you were closer I'd let you borrow mine and test but Randburg is a bit far

It IS month to month so you can sign up and try it then return if you don't like it. In terms of how quick you can get it, it's usually within a day or 2 of ordering they deliver the kit to you, you simply plug in, optimise and you're off to the races.

Wow, thanks man! And does it work with 1080p video streaming?

Reliable is nice but, what you want is consistency and that is hardly ever the case with LTE and, for a LOT of people, specifically with Rain..

Fibre is more expensive but, you will get the speed you pay for with no shaping or throttling and CONSISTENTLY so, if you choose a good ISP..

I would recommend CISP for fibre..

Is the worst rated (Not only by MYBB but across the board) ISP's service package any good or worth it?

No.

I have the 5G premium. Long story short: rain 5G may or may not work well in your exact location. To add to that, ours used to work well (before the NSA to SA change), and now it's so unstable that I often struggle to use it for work while family members are also online. Gaming has also been out of the question recently because the ping jumps between 30ms and 80ms. Fibre is definitely a much safer bet in terms of reliability, even if the promise of great 5G speeds for only R999 seems alluring.

I am not happy with Service. Have reported this a couple of times. Continues DC's, Slow speeds.

I have fibre. This seems cheaper and faster than fibre.
Don't do it ....
Its not consistent.
Its not reliable.
Latency is bad, so gaming stuffers.
Its double NATed, so you can't host games, not easy to connect to your camera system etc.
Support sucks.
VPN is throttled - confirmed, i have the WhatsApp communications with senior network guys proving it.
You'll spend more time on your roof moving the device, looking for signal and begging for support that enjoying the internet.
Say the premium is 999, 100Mbps fiber you can get between 1100 and 1400.
You'll have 100Mbps day and night.
5G you'll get 300 some days 5 the next, most evening's my speed drops to 40-80 at best.

Nuff said.

They should be liquidated just on the fact how they conduct themselves and poor excuse for service.

It's very nice when it rains and your grass changes from a rusty brown to a grassy green

Take this morning as an perfect example ….
Wake up to some horrible speeds - 15Mbps download.
Start investigating - its connected to closest tower - 580m away only LTE … WTF
So switch of - keep off for a couple of minutes - on again.

Now it connects to a tower over 4km away(ignoring 3 closer towers) - still horrible speed - max 25 Mbps.
After 5 more power downs and power ups - it finally connects to 2nd closest tower 900m from me - speed now 80Mbps - still way below their promised average of 200Mbps, but hey I got to work, don't have the energy to explain this whole problem over and over again, only to be told to reboot, reset, and then be told that it is escalated to the network team - never to be heard of again(been doing it since may this year).

Yesterday in contrast - connected to the same tower 900m away day started of at 7:00 with just over 250Mbps and like normal dropped away to 46Mbps round 21:00.

Cant see myself struggling like this in the future, hopefully fiber becomes available here early next year.(trenching is done - TP installed and spliced - BB still needs to be spliced and area not live yet)

Only thing that scares me, is then I have to deal with them to cancelled it - think I will get legal advice before I do that, as I am not in the mood being billed month after month after my cancellation
