Is SAIX blocking Rapidshare?

I have a very curious problem with opening any Rapidshare URL. I can ping the URL which works fine, but I get a HTTP 500 Internal Server error when I try to open it with a Web Browser on both IE7 and FF3.

All other sites - locally and internationally seems to be working.

Just had a friend try it through an IS-based account and it worked just fine.

Had the same problem last night. I just VPN'ed into the IS network & downloaded what I wanted. Glad to hear it's up again via SAIX

Seems like I spoke to soon... :(

It goes on and off on SAIX.

Just tried it through Vodacom's 3G network and it worked great. If I switch back to SAIX, it is no go.

Don't Vodacom link up with SAIX again at some point before the traffic leaves the country?

Hi Borg,

I don't think Vodacom use the same network setup as the transparent proxies that Telkom have in place.

RapidShare works on iBust. Don't they use Saix?

Anyway maybe Telscum wants to limit all the bandwidth leeching,
all that pr0n, warez and moviez/epz you folks have been dl'ng.

Why on earth would they want to do that??? That would be like killing the Goose that lays the golden eggs.

Maybe Telkom cannot provide food for the Goose anymore and decided to put it out of its misery! :D

just noticed this.

Looks like they have done the same with Zshare.net site loads but you can't download or listen to streaming audio. :( disaster.

Use Virgin Mobile - never had a prob d/loading via them - just sloooow.

I don't think it is just Rapidshare, or file sharing. There are a lot of .com websites I can not access, including biz-community.com, which is a south african website.
I have tried numerous DNS, including auto with the same results.

they're not allow to block any sites. If they do you can lodge a complaint. I think its a general problem though - maybe end of month problem again.

Try using this proxy on SAIX accounts and Rapidshare:

cache.saix.net on port 8080

The proxy seems to work for the Rapidshare problem.

I have however identified a further issue:

If I enter the URL http://www.emirates.com, a Network Solutions page opens which has nothing to do with the airline.

This happens on both my SAIX ADSL connection, and MTN's 3G network. Vodacom's 3G network is the only one which opens up the correct site.

This all happens on the same PC without changing any settings, except for the connection itself.

What is going on? This could end up costing the airline customers.

dude SAIX is like an isp to the service providers. they're called Internet Access Providers. when you want to connect to the internet; they do first authentication of your username and password once they check that and everything is cool they will allow you access to the internet, the username and password is then sent to your isp and they check if you have enough bandwidth to go on the internet thats known as the second authentication. there are three IAPs in SA first is SAIX which is owned by telkom, Internet Solutions(IS) and the third one is UUNet which now VERIZON. if want to start your own ISP you speak to these guys.
