IS & Saix news servers

If you've been to rage and feel paranoid about this so called trojan, check your MD5 hash of grabit.exe

I did not go to rage and mine is 342345d1c7986a4ee005b0732c16067f
This will make sure nothing infected your grabit's exe.
Also, do a scan with Spybot Search and Destroy. While it is scanning, click on the "Mode" Menu, set it to advanced. Click on Tools on the left, then click on System Startup. Look for any suspicious files in your windows' startup. (This is for advanced users only, obviously, so don't mess up your windows startup :p)

The link to where I got this picture was posted on Newshost under the "Chat" feature around midday today. Gave me a few giggles once I noticed what was in the taskbar... :)
 
IS Server

I see the IS server is up & going again, is it save to dl of what?
 
If you think about it though, downloading stuff (esp. if on the wrong side of the law) through your service provider (IS or SAIX) is not the smartest idea. I mean their news servers are in thier control.

Plus, IS and SAIX want money right ? Fundamental thing in business, maximize shareholders wealth; so if some corporation (that represents copyright-holders) comes to IS and/or SAIX and says, "your users are downloading copyrighted content. help us nab them, and we'll give you a cut of what we get out of the law suits" what would you say as SAIX/IS ?

And on your own news server, how hard would it be to monitor ? You wouldn't have to monitor everything, just groups like alt.binaries.tv etc etc.

How legal that all is I do not know :)

Then again this could all be some underground scam by a tight-knit handful of forumites hoping for good speeds on IS news again :p

I honestly do not know...

PS Arrests are maybe a bit much, most overseas cases of copyright infringement on P2P networks resulted in initial demands for cash settlements.

im not gona chance it. i dont want ppl rocking up outside my door and coming for my computer
 
i actually have experience such a clamp down and not funny.

when i arrived at my (previous now) employment there was this black jeeps outside 4x of them.
as i entered the room all pc's was clamped and in the process of being mirrored exactly the hdd's as they are - as well as the paper work.
dudes and and one woman - also obviously black suits...

the ppl who did that had afterwards done block by block analysis of the all the hdds.

quit scary actually -

pwc sent them to check out the company.

People obviously seem to have forgotten the raid at Verizon not too long ago.

Whether this whole thing is true or not, the Verizon incident is just a reminder that search and seizure operations can happen. If you've used Newsbin in conjunction with IS before, you'd know very well that there's a disclaimer before the actual connection stating that their server is used at your own risk and they will not be held responsible.

So make of it what you will ;)
 
The FUD'mongering is getting a bit old now.
