I actually got my first "Final Demand" today from SARS for R 0,00. Complete with dodgy English

Looks like you need to log into efiling and file the three outstanding EMP201 returns, even if you don't owe them anything. You will then also need to submit your EMP 501 recon if you have not done so already...

The chances of that being anything other than legit is very slim. No self-respecting crook sends fake R0 demands.

EMP201 is supposed to be submitted by the employer if I'm not mistaken. The way I'm reading it your employer has failed to do so for the last few months....which is a problem for both you & the employer. The R0 I'd interpret as SARS simply not knowing the amount since the form hasn't been filed.

Assuming the above is accurate this is usually a sign of serious cashflow issues at the employer & indicates that the company is about to go down in a ball of flames.

I'd definitely phone SARS for good measure. Can't really hurt. Don't use the phone number on the form though...the info might be a fake phishing thing.

What he said.

You are obliged by law to submit the monthly EMP201 returns and SARS can sue you if you don't.

Phone SARS and confirm those returns are outstanding and submit them. If you deduct monthly PAYE from your employees you should declare that in the EMP201's and pay it together with the penalties and interest as they are way overdue.

Also the recon as mentioned should be submitted.

HaHaHa only in SA,pay them R10 and then will have to refund you at their cost

I stopped trading in July 2010. The EMP201 forms had been submitted every month from January 1980 to July 2010, when the business was sold. Apparently, SARS still want zero returns even if the business is not trading. I cannot see the logic. I did notify SARS of the change of owner, but they took no notice.
