IS Speedtest for ADSL testing

Its quicker to ping IS New York link from SAIX than from a IS ADSL line weird

Try these tests from your SAIX ADSL line and check any differences
and see what resukts you get from SAIX ADSL

Ping speedtest-ny.isdsl.net from IS ADSL line
http://196.211.2.162/cgi-bin/ping.cgi?t=speedtest-ny.isdsl.net
PING speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204): icmp_seq=0 ttl=120 time=627 ms
64 bytes from speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204): icmp_seq=1 ttl=120 time=627 ms
64 bytes from speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204): icmp_seq=2 ttl=120 time=634 ms

Now from SAIX 256k Diginet (Better latency) EXPLAIN ???? Routes via SAIX-IS Peering
PING speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204) 56(84) bytes of data.

Funny how they're using my old speed test script without giving me credit ;-)

Anyways, the reason why it's higher latency via ISDSL, is because last I heard, IS routed all ISDSL intl traffic over Satellite, while other traffic goes via the fiber.

Here's a trace from my ISDSL account:
traceroute to speedtest-ny.isdsl.net (196.33.171.204), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

Not terribly accurate ( to rba) ...

Start Time: 09:11:59
End time: 09:11:01
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 2.2411570549011 seconds
Download Speed: 178 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 1424 kbits/s

Thats off iBurst (using CTRL refresh) ... last time I looked WBS hadn't upgraded to 2Mbps yet.

Ya hadnt noticed ... did another, time is (sort of) right this time ...

Start Time: 10:11:16
End time: 10:11:18

This is off my 192 line using IS
Rosebank:
Start Time: 10:11:58
End time: 10:11:10
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 11.446192026138 seconds
Download Speed: 35 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 280 kbits/s

New York:
Start Time: 10:11:19
End time: 10:11:31
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 11.847867965698 seconds
Download Speed: 34 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 272 kbits/s

Seems in line with the speeds that I have been getting. Must say, this little 192 line packs a bit of a punch :)

Cheers, Nick
