I often wonder if Telkom has the ability to think BIG.

Thinking BIG such as by December 2005 there will be at least 250 000 ADSL lines and by December 2006 a million.

That would require some effort in planning and projections - enough ports in all exchanges. Enough bandwidth between exchanges and enough technicians to handle the load.

Unfortunately they seem to be very satisfied with the minimal progress they are having at present. Seems as if they are so pea-brained that targets such as above is beyond their scope of thinking.

I have asked that as well. Truth be told, they do not NEED to think big, because 70000 ADSL users pay the same amount as 1 million or more users in another country.

It is so sad

They dont have enough staff to cope with the current ADSL backlog - they will have to employ more people to take the new orders, do installations etc, and you know how telkom likes retrenching people, so unless everyone at Telkom grows an extra 2 arms and ears and mutates into 2 people there is little chance of much happening.

"Unfortunately they seem to be very satisfied with the minimal progress they are having at present."

Our measure of Telkom's progress is not the same as theirs. In their eyes they're right on track with raping this country and extracting all the money they can. I think they're progressing well by their likely measuring standards.

Pity about SA getting shafted though...
