Is the 5800XM worth it?

Hi guys,

I am currently using a TyTn II and love it to bits. Obviously, there are some irritants (sluggish interface) but on the whole quite happy with the phone.

Unfortunatly, being a student I dont have the cash to get one of the newer HTCs (Touch PRO, Touch HD) but my contract is due for an upgrade.

The question I have is: Would I be happy with a 5800XM as a second phone (The TyTn II still works perfectly, so I would still end up using it at least 50% of the time.

The main functions I use on my TyTn II (besides calls and sms's) would be GPS, some email (but this is done through the gmail app). I will also in future want exchange support (I have heard rumors that Nokia is thinking of releasing the exchange app for the 5800XM).

Go find someone with a Series 60 handset. Its basically the same but touch screen. If you like that interface compared to HTC then get it. Else get something cheaper and save for new HTC

I have a TyTn II and got a 5800 XM on a recent upgrade. I just sold the XM again this week. I just could not get used to a touchscreen only, so I'm back to my TyTn II.

The major irritation, apart from touchscreen only, with the XM is that it has a tendency to think that you've turned it landscape, and so often if you just move your wrist a little it switches the orientation by itself, and you have to then flick your wrist to get it right again. That irritated me no end.

As with all phones, there are some more minor irritations, but ultimately it boiled down to the touchscreen only thing for me. If you can handle touchscreen only, it's a nice phone. And it's much easier to use in direct sunlight than the HTC!

You do know that there is an option to turn of automatic rotation of the screen, don't you?
