Is the Allow Photos Access setting in iOS pointless?

I understand why Apple has included this feature in iOS that you could limit apps to specific photos, but in the absence of being able to allow or deny selected albums instead of individual photos (the alternative being allow all), this feature doesn't seem very useful and needs some refinement. How many Apple users grant their apps access to manually selected photos?
My feeling is that the majority of people will just choose "allow all" and be done with it. I would have loved to have more granular control over which apps have access to which photos, but I'm not going to choose specific photos one by one unless the app in question is dodgy.

Well that’s exactly the choice they’ve given you is to decide which apps you trust and which apps you don’t.

I don’t use Albums at all so don’t see the need for that use case or who it would even make sense per app but I’ve used the feature quite a bit.

What I would like to see is the two step process disappearing of first allowing the photo and then selecting it again for the app in question.

It would work better as a kind of “reverse share” button where you get access to Photos from the button but not give it to the app and it then lets you choose which photos to “push” back to the app for sharing.

In fact all apps could just get rid of their own gallery thing all together and just let it jump to Apple’s like in the old days, but that will of course be too “closed” for some people.

In that way the only apps that would need all photos access would be stuff like Google Photos etc.

It’s actually pretty crazy to see how many Apps that have nothing at all to do with Photos had full access before this granularity was available.

Also there’s an option to only have it working one way to add photos but not in reverse which would have made a nice default setting.

And that’s my one major gripe with iOS that comes back into play again….please give us a default setting for these things so we don’t need to be asked every single bloody time.

Defaults for Location, Notifications and now Photos would make life so much simpler.
