Is the Nintendo Wii U worth buying?

If you are a fan of Nintendo games then the wii u is totally worth it.
I use it mostly as a "mario machine" and with Mario Kart coming out end of the month I'm hoping to completely destroy my social life.

There are also some other good titles that are very well done, The Zelda windwalker remake (for those of us without a game cube this is the first time we can play it) is excellent. Monster Hunter (getting a new release this year as well, if i'm not mistaken) is also a lot of fun if you like endless "farming". and Zombie U is honestly one of the most nerve racking survivalist games i've ever played.

I haven't regretted my Wii-U for a second. Can't wait for Mario Kart 8 to come out.
 
Just got one out of necessity. My Wii broke. Well. The DVD drive broke after 5 years of use. It is n nice upgrade, nice to be able to play old Wii games and the gamepad is useful.
 
No its not worth it.
Why?
Because its basically what I would call an "HDMI upgrade" to the ageing hardware.
Same old CPU, same old base system, just better graphics chip to give HDMI.
I am giving it a miss.
Because games perform better, with emulation, on my CORE i3, I sold my Wii, but kept the WiiMote and Nunchuk which I use with a Bluetooth dongle on my PC.

So some random tech specs.
No mention that is has the best games around (If you're not looking for "shoot 'em ups") and seems to be the only console that focuses on multiplayer?
I'm basing that on my investigating which of the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U, I should buy myself
 
With the current price tag? Nope.
With the current games library? Nope.

With the level of 3rd party support? Nope.

Yeah the Wii U has become a really nice console by now. The multiplayer games are the best on any console in my opinion.
 
It's just a Mario machine with the odd Zelda thrown in. Everything else is better on the other platforms...
 
My Wii U hates CellC, so the online store is practically unusable. Downloads keep corrupting.

What I like is to be able to game in my armchair while the rest of the family watch TV. The tablet allows that for most games. Definitely a feature I'd miss.

It surprises me that people are hung up on this 'hardware issue'. What percentage of playability and enjoyment is it really?

The greatest games don't use the hardware to it's full extent. Ask any minecraft nut. Today's games are still trying to play catchup with last gen consoles. The fact that PS2 stuff still sells says a lot.

Uhm, I mean that if the same game is available on a platform with better hardware, then I would rather play it on that platform. The fact that the Wii-U has hardware comparable with the last generation, means that cross-platform games will look and perform better on the PS4 and X1. The Wii only has Mario, Yoshi and similar kiddy-type games going for it. Zelda is decent, I'll give it that. But overall that's not enough. Not sure why this is difficult to understand...

Watch these two vids in HD and tell me honestly what you think. The PS4 version is 20% more expensive to boot...
Oh... and online play costs $$ on PS / Xbox. It's free on Wii U.

Oh... and Wii U is backward compatible with Wii, so if there are a bunch of good older games you want to play, there's no need for a second console.
