Even if we accept a capped adsl service, surely the cap should be increased marginally at the very least? Are we going to have a 3gb cap forever? Even though program download sizes have increased, update file sizes have increased, more and more video online, etc, etc...? Surely, at the very least the cap should be increased annually?

Is this still capped by Telkom or have they shifted the blame to ISP's?

It seems like the 3GB cap will be their for a long time !. Think about this all ISP's bar Internet Solutions have to buy ADSL access from Telkom. So Telkom dont care if they lose clients to other ISP's this still get revenue without having to support the client.

How did they come up with 3gb in the first place?

I assumed the used dice, and the lucky number that always came up was 3. It it also has to do with the number or brain cells that run Telkom, 3 seems to be the average number again.

Its all in the stats ! I mean numbers !

True.

As our software upgrades (Windows XP and Vista) also does our Windows Updates increase dayly / weekly. and more Anti-virus updates are needed all over (cause of all the virus's) , and obviously gaming updates, our Usage also grows. But yet our cap stays this small.

People are using applications like Skype, Surfing sites like youtube. How can a 3gig cap last the whole month??? Answer is simple. It doesn't last.
But yet telkom doesn't do anything about it, nor do they care.

Thats not the answer though, but it is Telkoms strategy :>>

line rental prices went down over the years yet bandwith charges stayed the same with minor changes. It is Telkom's strategy to maintain revenues. Reduce the one charge and keep the other charges the same while volumes increase.

By the way, didnt they say SAT3 is open after the 1st of NOV
Surely the caps should increase then...if it does happen

As long as SAT3 "Might be unlocked by November" and the Local Loop Unbundling "Should be completed in 4 years" - that 3 gig cap will be around for a long time to come

prices wont drop unless telscum can make up the lost profit somewhere...so see it happening ANYTIME soon:mad:

I think the official Telkom line now is that there is no cap, you can buy as much binadwidth as you need, you just pay per GB.
