No Juice Defender, cos that also switches off data when the screen is off & interrupts my receiving Whats app messages.

Both my HTC Desire HD and Sony Xperia T do this automatically. Surely it's a standard feature of Android?

thats is a good question.

When i am connected to wifi, the data indicator is 'on' so i assume that it is still connected to the network, even though it uses the wifi for incoming and outgoing data. I am trying to switch off data under these conditions to try & save some battery life.

It happens automatically for me too. You know which connection is active because it turns blue in the notification area.

Yes use Llama to switch WiFi on and off for you. Its awesome.

+1 You can also set to do updates exclusively with WiFi. And you can set each app to use WiFi only if you want.

Settings > Data Usage > Select app > Properties

I think you can tell Juice Defender not to switch off data? Can't remember how off the top of my head, but I'm sure I saw it somewhere ...
