Try Atooma. It's a logic app that can basically process if-then arguments. If Wifi signal on then turn off cellular data.

I was also under the impression this happens. I'm pretty sure my GS2 also turns off cellular data when wifi is connected.

thats is a good question.

When i am connected to wifi, the data indicator is 'on' so i assume that it is still connected to the network, even though it uses the wifi for incoming and outgoing data. I am trying to switch off data under these conditions to try & save some battery life.

Check if the E/3G/LTE thingy next to the signal bars go away when you're connected to Wi-Fi?

iPhones automatically switch. So I'd say.....there's an actual phone that does what you want WITHOUT an app...
