Is there any cheaper to SA?

Hi,
I think that VOIPRAIDER has the cheapest calls possible to SA (telkom&cell phones).
Does anyone know of someone cheaper?

They are cheaper than an other voip service, and even cheaper than going direct with local companies (even cheaper than neotel or telkom to a telkom/cellphone number).

Why can't VOX and all these other VOIP providers offer as good pricing as voipraider? Infact, why WOULD anyone use VOX when you can use voipraider for a fraction of the cost???

Voipraider rates to SA (as of today with exchange rate of R8.5/$1):
Telkom landline: 8.5c per min
Cell phones 96c per min

THATS PEANUTS compared to anyone else!

VOIPRAIDER is routed through New York. So, if you're phoning from an SA number to another SA number, your call's data goes through New York. Really really dumb.

Actually, it is a Betamax service, and it routes via GERMANY.

The quality on a 4mb ADSL line is almost perfect were it not for a slight delay. When talking to family, it really isn't a problem with the delay. It is maybe 1 second delay at most (probably due to latency issues)

I was in Europe last year and used voipraider over there. The quality was as good as calling from landline to landline!

In addition, VOIPRAIDER offer a call back service, so for (converted into Rand) 42c connection fee and 17c per min, you can even do a call back from 1 SA landline to another. Still an extremely good price compared to the others, and this eliminates the 'delay' problem.

So, when I phone my neighbour on a VOIPRAIDER service, I get to route through Germany, and experience absolute maximum delay of:
- Me to Germany = 150ms
- Germany to my Neighbour = 150ms
- my Neighbour to Germany = 150ms
- Germany to Me = 150ms.
That's a 600ms round trip on a GOOD day.

If you want to simplifiy it then the delay is 300ms and not 600ms, why because data is synchronous in nature. ie when you talk it takes 300ms for him to hear you when he talks it takes 300ms for you to hear him.

But the point you make is correct, yes there is a delay if using a betamax service from SA to call another SA line, I think though in a few months time when our international bandwidth situation improves this service will really become good for us.
