Is there something wrong with the internet recently?

Is telkom repairing a line in my area or something? I've had intermittent internet access for two days now, and it's really annoying me. It will work for 5min, then stop working completely. Everything is supposedly normal on the modem, and I'm not out of cap. It seems to work fine in the evening, but not during the day. Oh and I live in Rondebosch. Any ideas?

Have you called Telkom ADSL fault reporting? 0 800 375 275

Our office ADSL went through that phase for three months... turned out to be a rusty copper wire. Now it works... but is just slow. :(

Sorry, my fault. My cd rom was faulty and i could only load some sites via stiffy. Im looking at upgrading to a dvd so i can finally fit all the net on it.

TBH I have picked up something odd as well. International constantly dropping or slowing down then picking up again. Occasionally Steam struggling to connect. At work even the leased line to UK has been up and down...sometimes dreadfully slow to respond and constant fluctuations in DL speeds. Facebook struggling at times.

One could argue this is normal :p but no...people who use PC's often have a 'feel' for these sorts of things :D and something definately seems weird to me. Someone somewhere is always spilling coffee on something

check you SNR and attenuation on your router stats.
- SNR should be above 10dB constantly to have a half decent line. Also, the higher the value of the attenuation, the longer your line, so 60dB would probably be pushing 5km's meaning the potential to drop connection increases.

Internet broken!

I have had problems for the past week or more using my Telkom ADSl connection - some pages load okay, but clicking through to other pages within the same website fails. Email and FTP works fine.

Since I spend my working life connected and online, I have a good feel for internet functionality and this is not normal - mind you one has to ask what can be regarded as normal in the land of "chaos theory applied" in all things!

But there is definitely something wrong - I also have a ADSL connection from Axxess, and if I connect using this all works as it should - WTF is going on?

I have called Telkscum at least three times - and all I get from them is to check my own system, even after I expalin that my system is clearly working fine using Axxess but not Telkom - they simply cannot grasp that this constitutes good evidence that the fault is elsewhere!

Local sites are slower than dialup for me today. This thread took about 4 minutes to load. I can't download my email, keep on getting time out. International sites seem a bit better, but still slower than dialup. Don't even know if this post will get posted.

Earlier this morning I cold not use my credit card, cause the shop's ADSL line was down, don't know if it is related, probably.

I have the same problem. Been checking out forum posts over the last two weeks. Many many complaints. There is definitely something wrong - browsing, email, downloads, uploads, and more than the usual latency for online gaming. I have been through a series of attempts with Axxess, IS, and Telkom. No one seems to know what the problem is or how to fix it at this stage. Sucks big time.....

Think they are hooking seacom up with their backbone?

Aha! - lightbulb moment there!

I read the other day how the cable has come ashore at Mtunzini in Natal - you could have something there Philosopher.

Can just imagine some dork sitting on the beach with a huge cable and millions of little wires to connect up correctly - Hau!

I also have been having problems with intermittent loss of internet connection, in Jet Park.
