Is this a diff issue?

A week or so ago I had my FIL's bakkie's (05 Hilux) rear brake shoes replaced as they were worn and started to screech.

The following morning when I tried pulling away out of the driveway the driver's side, rear wheel locked up. So I pulled up the handbrake and released it again (thinking that I didn't release it all the way initially) and all seemed fine.

Then during the course of last week it started doing it more often, and it only does it from a position where the handbrake was used. After a few tries it resolves itself. its almost like there's one "click" still left when you released it (if that makes sense :) )

Yesterday someone told me that it could be the diff starting to fail, but I find that a bit difficult to believe. Could it be?

Lifting the handbrake slightly was the oldschool poor mans diff lock.
Not sure if that would be an indicator of a possible failure though.

More likely the brake cable wasn't adjusted properly, or is sticking. Definitely not a diff problem.

Thanks boys. Now to find some time to take it back to the place to have them sort it out.

If it's brake shoes as opposed to pads (shoes are fitted to drum brakes, pads to disks), then it's quite possible that one of the springs that pull the shoe away from the drum was not replaced properly. They can be a real bugger to get back, and usually have quite a bit of tension in them.

Like the others said its most likely that the shoes are sticking due to them not fitting the new ones properly or not releasing the auto adjuster on both sides.
