So openserve came to do the fibre install.
I was out of the office so couldn’t speak to the tech.
So this device below is what was left connected to the fibre.

Question.
Is this a router? Are the login details for the internet (I ordered with Afrihost) preset on the device?
Can I just add computers to the LAN ports or do I need another router to setup a dialup?

Yes, its an (e/g)pon modem/router/voip combo device

Will typically have a webui to config pppoe login for your provider details
Can add computers to the lan ports.

Would help to know the model number though to confirm

That's the ONT which is a router but it's locked down and you have no access to it. Your router plugs into the LAN1 port of the ONT, on your router you enter the PPPoE login details.

You don't get access to the openserve ONT, you need to plug your router into it and do all the configs on your own router.

That so annoying. It would be so much easier to use this one device and add it to my switch. Why does openserve lock it?

Is there any way to get another all in one router that takes the fibre an does the PPPoE and routing?

Yes there is, but not in this case. It's purposefully designed like this.

This is the ONT - in theory if you are not switching to a different ISP then you can plug a LAN cable directly to it to you PC and this should work also this ONT should have WIFI already enabled so you should be able to connect to it via wifi this is only if you plan on using openserve directly though if you switching to a different ISP then you will need an additional router.

This is the first nokia ONT ive seen though usually the most common ONT is the Calix - my above experience is based on the Calix ONT not sure of this Nokia ONT

Can someone send me pictures of other Telkom's WiFi Enabled ONT if there is please.

You can try signing up for Openserve web connect to get an all in one device, but I will not do it personally. The speeds you can get on web connect is either 40/10 or 20/10. No higher speeds available.

Rather just sign up with Afrihost and take their free TP-Link router for Wi-Fi. At least there you can get higher speeds.

It's not really 'free', it comes with a R250 delivery fee. Delivery for something that weight & size is usually <R100

You can always collect it from their Rivonia office and save the R250
