Hi

I was wondering if this was still a thing, depends on where you stay is the max fibre speed you can get:

I am currently of Openserv with a 40/20 connection, want to move to a 100/50

Thank you so much for your request, please be advised we have attempted to upgrade your line, But unfortunately under your address the max line speed Openserev is offering is the 40/20 line,

We are not sure as to when they will upgrade the lines for the higher line speeds, But we dont see any plans in the works for the moment for the areas lines to be upgraded.

I thought fibre didn't suffer from these limitations. Maybe it's the exchange?
 
I also have Vuatel in my area, but they only arrived a few months after openserv put their fibre in, if this is the case with openserv restricting speeds, I will move.

I am just worried about the time it takes to have vuma line installed and cancelling the openserv one, don't think I can afford to pay for two fibre connections.
 
When I wanted to upgrade my line, I had to mail them with confirmation that I contacted Vuma and that Vuma was happy that my line could handle the requested speed.
 
Fibre has a lot of capacity, but that does not mean that it is unlimited, no carrier is infinite.

Pretty sure Openserve would have made sure to have enough capacity to deliver 100Mbps since that's a short term capacity option they already are offering, would be dumb of them not to do so when they just rolled out.

Can always be issue with how network is laid out in regards to topology which could make it unfeasible, but doubt it.

Defending Openserve. There is no defending needed. To say Openserve gpon fibre network has line speed limit of 40Mbps is absurd to say the least.

It's like me saying most Vumatel lines has packetloss because the CISP and other threads are flooded with packet loss ridden lines........
 
So on an application for a line we get the response from OS saying X is the highest supported. Even though IPC is considered the most expensive transport on the planet. Do you have a ref for me?

Openserv might be overutilized in your area and they have not planned to upgrade the exchange points to allow for higher sync rates.

Openserv and Vumatel have different network in basic terms, Openserv operates more like old hubs that are not full duplex ie. The hub have total bandwidth and that is shared among all users whereas Vumatel network have full duplex approach where each user get their own allocated port then it all depends on the backhaul bandwidth.

So in this sense Openserv might have decided that in order to manage their entry points better they need to limit the max speed a user can apply for in your area.

Openserve rolloed out a gpon network. There is no 40Mbps limitation. Maybe an ill informed emloyee at Openserve rejects the application or something like that but there is no 40Mbps limitation.

I can't see that they will limit line speeds as the OLT gets full just does not make sense.
 
Can't find the thread now but i am sure I read that in some areas the service is still contended even though it is Fibre especially with OS.
 
I'm basically just waiting for people to point me in the direction of Openserve clients complaining about packet loss and slow speeds. ISP's IPC congestion complaints excluded because that is not Openserves fault. IPC is expensive but if the ISP has enough it will not be an issue.

Everyday you read complaints about Vumatel and Frogfoot and issues always point back to Packet loss on the lines.

That is utter BS with enough facts mixed in so it sounds plausible, well done.
