I'm currently thinking of upgrading to a dedicated sound card because i just can't hear the ingame sounds such as footsteps so well and I just want to know if by buying a flagship sound card will be beneficial with my stereo headsets.

What SC do i currently have: Onboard Realtek ALC892
What headset do i have: Corsair Vengeance 1300
What SC would i like to buy: ASUS XONAR ESSENCE STX R1,449 at rebeltech.

Thank you.

No doubt it will make a difference in clarity..
But more importantly is the quality of the sound the headphones put out.
Hope my 2cents helps :P

I would rather get something like the Logitech G35. It has 7.1 surround sound and doesn't require a dedicated sound card, just a USB port. It has great surround sound quality and bass. Cost about R1300 3 years ago when I bought it

Nothing wrong with that. Logitech make superior sound equipment!
You really can't go wrong

Same my G35, on call of duty u can hear footsteps a mile away. People tend to call u a hacker

Ok lets say I dont want a new headset (since its quite new), will buying the sound card be worthwhile?

Also i noticed that the sound card has no 3.5MM jacks for my headsets, how would i plug it in?

I don't know the Corsair headphones but my guess is it will be a waste of money. The Xonar Essence cards are more designed for audiophile-grade headphones. You'd definitely hear a difference but if you know for sure you won't be upgrading your headphones in future you're better off with something cheaper like the Xonar DX or DG. They'll also give you improved sound but since the Corsairs are only 32 Ohms they don't need all the high-end amplifier circuits etc. of the Essence. If you plan on upgrading later though, the Essence is definitely worth it.

I stumbled across my old PCI Sound Blaster Audigy card yesterday. Installed it and there's no doubt the sounds is better than the onboard from the Asus P8P67 I had been using.
