Is this article fair on BMW?

A 7 year old kid gets run over by an a-hole and you're more concerned with them sullying the good name of BMW?

How about quoting just some of the article next time so people know what you're going on about? ;)

BMW drag racer kills 7-year-old

Thabisile Khoza

Matsulu - Angry community members swooped on a drag racer who knocked down and killed a seven-year-old boy.

The suspect and a friend were racing each other along the busy Madiba Drive in Matsulu outside Nelspruit in Mpumalanga on Saturday.

"The suspect was driving at about 140km/h in a 60km/h zone when he lost control on a corner and hit a boy who was on the pavement," said Matsulu police spokesperson Moses Shirinda.

"My car cannot drive at 60 - it only handles well at high speeds".

F*cker

Yeah the reporter does seem to bash BMWs unfairly. The 316i is a bit of a dog in terms of performance.

BMW cars are safe and relatively well built (though badly serviced) but they have gained a bad reputation. I don't think it is deserved at all. I know for one, that I have been selected as a car to be pulled over just because it was one - even the cop admitted so.

140km/h is not that fast for a BMW - and it sounds like this one has been souped up.

Is that in the article?

No, but Skeptik just said a very similar thing "140 is not that fast for a BMW".

It seems to be a common thing these days "The car is built for it" ," i know what I am doing" etc etc etc.

The point is that the car is capable, and is built to go at speed on the German autobahns. So it is also built to stop rapidly too, which is why some folk think it's cool to tailgate and roar past.

Since they say corner rather than bend I'm guessing that even the finest of German automotive technology cant defy physics despite of what it is capable of doing on a straight highway like the autobahn.

I hope the community got in a few good licks before handing him over. ;)

I think it's the drivers of BMWs that have gained it bad reputation ;):D

well that all depends on weather the car or the nut behind the wheel killed the kid.
Come on people its the driver that killed the kid not the car.Any educated person would see that.Any car would would kill with an idiot behind the wheel.

So you advocate mob justice then. No trial??

Pass me another bwanana.:D

Yeah **** the speed limit. That's just there for people who can't afford BM's

It's this sort of idiotic thinking that kills kids
What thinking?
You can't generalise and blame all BM drivers. In my opinion they tend to be better drivers for lots of reasons. Criticism is generally based on jealousy IMHO.

I guess you didnt read what I wrote - "I hope the community got in a few good licks before handing him over." He's perfectly entitled to a trial.

Drag racer ???

It's idiots like this that give motorsport a bad name. Drag racing is carried out on a controlled private strip. Why is it that whenever two morons "dice" on the road the papers report "Drag racers" ?

Speed is not the problem. In Germany 200k/h is cruising speed on the non-regulated sections (even for lesser cars than BMW). Some travel at 300k/h and yet they have comparatively few accidents. The ones they do have tend to be cars literally wrapped around trees tough...

The problem is unsafe vehicles and idiots driving. There they have 10 hours compulsory driving lessons (incl night time) and regular road-worthiness checks. Here a bribe is the main requirement.

Most of the people on SA roads should not be trusted to drive a shopping trolley, let alone a taxi with cardboard brakes.
