This is the price of all the components you selected.

I got this quote from www.computerstore.co.za

Is there anything I must change? I am not a gamer.

I would suggest you get a bigger power supply, a minimum of 500 watts. If you are looking at gaming, you might also rethink the graphics card. Yo can get a much better one for a few hundred rands more ....

he said he isnt a gamer, but i agree with psu. get a bigger 1.

also shop around, cpu for R1800 on pcinternational.co.za.

Yes. Very likely to have the best prices. prophecy.co.za for exotic stuff that pcint doesn't stock.

Why two PSUs? Surely you can get a case that does not include one?

As already pointed out, the PSU is no good.

Motherboard looks like an overkill. You can easily get away with R500 less there. The expensive motherboards are mostly useful if you are overclocking.

You might also want to make a plan about backups. Maybe a cheap external harddisk or a large usb stick.

I would try to go cheaper with the other components (motherb, Gfx etc) and then add this:

others might not agree with that though.

You don't need 4GB RAM for a 32Bit OS.

Either upgrade to 64Bit, or drop 1GB of RAM from your specs.

i was actually wondering why you were going 32bit. surley u can get the 64bit package of that OS for the exact same price? 32 bit cant address 4gb ram. most i ever got to using was like 3.25gb..

Hi again and thank you VERY much for your replies.

Yes, you are right about 64 bit OS. I will change to Win 7 64bit.

No, I will not be overclocking. What motherboard and CPU would you suggest. I also thought that the MB might be an overkill, but don't know enough to know which replacement to use.

Thanx again.

That PSU is more than enough for that rig.

The i5 750 is a great CPU, but for mobo rather go for the Asus P7P55-M for a lot cheaper (±R1500).

Go for 2 x 2GB RAM so you can upgrade your RAM further one day. 2 x 2GB should also be cheaper.

I recommend you rather look at a Cooler Master Elite case at ±R350, such as the Elite 310 series. Better build quality than the Gigabytes, and they have a 120mm fan.

+1 on all the above by PostmanPot.

I was about to say the same thing. I'm busy upgrading myself, and I am building a very similar system, albeit with the Asus board and an HD5770.

Ok, here is my Desktop, based on your recommendations & experience:

Motherboard
Asus MB-AP7P55M : R1 465.00

CPU
Intel Boxed Core, i5 750, 1156 : R1 985.00

HDD
Western Digital, 1TB, GreenPower, 7 200rpm, 32Mb : R820.00

Memory
Transcend JetRam, High Perf 2Gb, DDR-1333 x 2 : R587.00 each

Memory Reader (For my Canon 40D's SD Card)
Sony, Internal 8-in-1 Memory Card Reader : R64

Graphics Card
Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT : R519.00

OS
Windows 7, Home Premium 64Bit : R1 040.00

Tower Box
Cooler Master RC 310 + 350W PSU : R579.00

TOTAL: R7 646.00 (Incl)

What do you think about the specs?

What monitor would you recommend for ±R2 000.00 ?

Thanx again.
Deon

Incredible connection have a special on the 2333SW for R1399-00 at the moment. I've seen it at 2 stores in the past week.

HDD
Western Digital, 1TB, GreenPower, 7 200rpm, 32Mb : R820.00

I would not recommend this HDD as an operating system HDD. It is 5400RPM - 7200RPM (variable). Rather just get a normal 7200RPM drive. 5400RPM is great for storage only, mainly. Seagate 7200.12 1TB gets my vote.

Samsung 2333SW. Or 2494HS if you can find it on special. Or the new P2450H.

Thanx very much for the info. I did not realise that the HDD was one with a variable speed.
