Hi Everyone.

I moved to a new house 2 weeks ago, and finally got my new Telkom ADSL line about 10 days ago.

I was the happiest man alive the first 7 days with my new line. had absolutely no latency issues when playing games, net was superfast .... man, life was awesome.

its been 3 days now, that the net at home is so bad, i cant even get google to open up.

if i run speedtest (and this is where it gets interesting)

Telkom SA (Sadly, my ISP) Down 2.74 Up.0.31
Afrihost .. Down 8.74 Up.1.21

And thats by only switching user accounts without restarting the router.

after some further investigation, i read the post on MyBB, understanding SNR and Attenuation. Now this is pretty interesting. dont know if my router (D Link DSL 2750U) is giving me the wrong info, but this is what i get under those figures. (just to prove the figures, i captured a screenshot)

adsl.JPG

420 dB line attenuation just doesn't seem right.
The SNR jumps between 64 and 134 everytime i reset the router.

is there any way that i can fix this? i had the most awesome line last year, and now everything went for a ball of $h@#.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I also have a D-Link Modem, just divide by 10. SNR of 6 is a bit low for a stable connection... But the Attenuation is within the limits. My Telkom Uncapped account has also been acting up in the last few days tho

I see you're connecting to your exchange using ADSL2+, which might be causing a bit of an issue. Try going to the Advanced tab, on the side bar hover over Network Tools, and open the ADSL option in that menu. From those checkboxes, deselect ADSL2+ and ADSL2, and hit apply. Basically we just forcing your modem to use an older, but sometimes more stable method for syncing.

If that doesn't help you can just re-enable them to get it back to it's previous state, no harm done ;)

Could you also run the tool that Zertop wrote. It's on this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool?highlight=

Once that's run you can just paste the results here and we can take a look ;) (Results are automatically copied to clipboard when the tool finishes)

I see you have a 10 meg line sync'ing at ~7 meg. Just note that when you disable ADSL2+,ADSL2, your line will no longer sync. Telkom's > 4 MEG only works on ADSL2+.

Good luck.
