I was looking to upgrade my 1gig telkom account to a 3gig one. The agent informed me to do it next week as he needed to cancel my old account and create a new one- he couldn't upgrade my account nor could he setp a new account to be activated on the 1st of March.
He said I would be charged the R79 plus the R149 this month. This sounds stupid- even for Telkom.

He is semi-correct. Due to your billing cycle period you could end up paying double for the first month but then you can claim it back and they will refund you; as long as he processes your cancellation request properly.

Did you go via a call centre ot Telkom Direct Shop?

Go visit your nearest Telkom Direct Shop. If anything goes wrong, go back to the same person. I always prefer the face-to-face method of doing business.

That will actually cost me more than an extra R79 ...

I just upgraded from Do1 to Do2. My account is normally about R330, so I expected to pay R390, about R60 more this month. When I got my account it was R505!!!

R115 more than expected and as you know Telkom's 10 page account statement don't do much for explaining what you are actually paying for. Will go visit a Telkom shop soon and get them to explain.

Yes I do get it that the first month you'll pay double, but surely it should only be double the increased amount, making it R330 + R60x2 = R450 at most and not double..., gee, have no clue double what that is that I had to pay.

And yes, I also had to cancel my account in January and had to call again to activate a new Do2 account in February.
