Is this iPad locked?

Client has an iPad 2. iOS 8.1.3
Given to her as a gift from her Daughter. Brought in from the UK.

Tried 2 Vodacom SIMs and both times it says No SIM on the top left. Does that correspond to a locked iPad or is there an issue with the SIM reader?

I would say sim reader,
if the sim is not compatible i would think it would say no service or something like that, i could be wrong.

i also have a Ipad 2, same problem but mine is definitely the sim reader, apparently Vodaworld fixes it for R350, but i have not called them to confirm this.
What i can say is Ipad2 + IOS 8 = rubbish.
My "work" ipad 2 with IOS 7 = runs like a dream

Maybe try installing IOS 8.2, apparently it fixes loads of issues.

iPads are not network locked to the best of my knowledge. So it might point to a possible faulty sim card reader.
