Hey people,

Anyone own and know about the Corsair Force GT 240GB SSD?

I'm seeing mixed reviews mostly good but I don't know enough about SSDs to make a decision.

Thanks

Corsair pretty much make the best stuff out there.

I have not seen any reviews on that particular SSD though. Nothing wrong with OCZ vertex also.

Are you mad!?

Heheh, of course SSD is worth it if:

1) It has a proper controller and it is running as sync and not async.
2) You at least have sata 2, it will be limited to max 250mbs. Sata3 would be best.
3) If you are going the pce rout then don't go with pce 1x, min of pci 4x is required if you do this and you should only be looking at something like asus has.

I have have the force gt 120 and it is rock solid. Their sandforce controller and the sync memory are definitely of the best you could get. I'm running my games from it and there is huge improvement, especially in battle field 3. Definitely be getting another one...

Defunct does that come with a Sandforce controller. If so do not buy it. I had Corsair SSD that had a Sandforce controller and I had it replaced 3 times already. So be cautious of those Sandforce controllers.

I have a OCZ Vertex, IMHO any SSD is worth it, the speed increase is exponential

You must be doing something wrong, mines been running without any of those issues. SF controllers are of the best you can get. Even intel uses those...

Vertex 4 is only other brand I've looked at apart from corsair :)

There were massive SF firmware issues but that was a long time ago.

I have had my Vertex 3 for a year and when I got it, it already had the later firmware and has been rock solid.

Yeh, thats the thing, I have seen complaints about the SF controller, for instance on recent Amazon reviews, that's why I wanted to ask here.

I had 3 drives RMA'd by Corsair and all of them use Sandforce controllers. I will say that you are the lucky one with no issues with your drive. Please check Corsair forum, there are loads of people that are complaining.

The issues with the SSD's usually start if you don't update the firmware before you install anything onto the SSD at all.

So when I buy a SSD I should update the firmware before doing anything else, is this all SSDs or just the SF controllers?

I think this is mainly with the SF controllers, but it won't hurt to do it with the others either.

Check out the waranty's on those parts. Its usually a good sign about how much confidence the manufacturer has in its products. The vertex 4 has a 5 year warranty, which is excellent.
