Need some help.

In the photo it has power and is turned on.
Fuse in the back is not blown.
LEDs are not coming on.
Do I just chuck it?

The charging circuit might need to detect some internal resistance from the battery to switch on
Connect the battery and try again
I see about 2 or 3 similar UPS a month and 1 in 10 are repairable. If it is repairable. most often it is a voltage regulator that is open circuit
I like APC as a brand, they seem to be more reliable
As usual, you get what you pay for

Don't think it will work without a battery. So batteries possibly dead.

They only last about 6 months. Depends how often you ran them flat.

Get new batteries and it will work again hopefully. And don't run the batteries past 50% dod

A decent UPS should disconnect the battery when it drops below 10,2V. Most do
What is the voltage of the batteries as they are (disconnected)?
In series, below 14V, chuck
You can use 7 a/h alarm batteries

Probably find that the batteries have been damaged due to loadshedding!
oh the irony hits strong. But I've seen stuff go haywire after load shedding. Seems like Load Shedding has its hidden damages as well which isn't easy to spot

I have no control over how the ups is used. I just get the call to buy a new one every now an again.

How old is it? Usually my UPS's last about a year before the batteries die. Its sometimes easier to just buy a new UPS. Replacing batteries takes time. Aint nobody got time for that.

Had a spare battery.

As soon as I connected it the ups turned on.
And the meter shows 20

I tend to do just that.
Bought 2 again yesterday.
Though if it is just new batteries I suppose I could salvage them and use them again.

Update, got two new batteries and the ups seems to working again.
Thanks guys.

Also is the R195 battery just as good as a R280 one?

I have repaired two UPS's by just replacing the batteries.

Power surges and outages are responsible for many latent issues on electronic devices. Most electronic failures occur on power-up and power-down.

Yes, these cheaper batteries are fine for your purpose
