Hi all

I recon this has been asked a million times. Is upload speed important for streaming?

We stream mostly on Youtube and Kodi, currently have a slowish wireless internet with a download speed of 5mbps and a upload of roughly the same speed. When streaming 720p we sometimes get a little pause/buffer and then it goes on again. We had days when streaming on Kodi the movie will buffer about 20 times for roughly 30 second or so.

Im looking at the 10mbps down and 5mbps upload fiber package as its in my price range, wanted to know should i rather go with the 10/10 package?

I looked at the 20/5 package as well but a little out of my budget.

Thanks
Jason

Watching a stream: upload speed won't make difference at all.

The wife will benefit from the upload speed more as she loves uploading photos to social media and always complain on how long it takes.

Not true. You need some level of upload bandwidth to send network acks, etc, otherwise your stream will stall. A totally congested upload path will impact streaming.

You need upload to request new packets from the stream host/server. Your upload speed isnt as important as say ping for requesting the next piece.

5mb/s should be fine for you to watch streams while having others do uploads from time to time - as long as you/she isn't torrenting or uploading a youtube video you should be perfect
