Hi,

I have heard a lot about World of Warcraft. A friend of mine wants me to start playing world of warcraft. I have a really slow line (384kbps, but i heard telkom might upgrade to 1mbps).

Is it worth playing World of Warcraft? Is it a really hard game? If its worth getting, what must I do / get to get started with the game?

Thanks.

WoW has it's good and bad sides IMO.

It's fun to play with some friends and if you join a relatively social guild, you will obviously meet some new people. I played for about 3 years, only really stopped because I realised that I don't really make money if I spend the time I should spend focusing on my business, playing WoW :D

I decided to play again, recently - which was fun...but quite a lot had changed and at that time most of the usual suspects were otherwise occupied - so didn't get to do all that much. Had fun questing and doing a few randoms though.

The "bad" - it works out to be quite expensive to play once you add up all the $$ spent on gametime. And if you don't really have time to play, leveling and gearing up can take a while.

You should have an acceptable experience playing on 384k, I spent at least my first year playing on a 384k - your only issue is going to be patch days - the updates were pretty big sometimes.

The game itself is also not difficult, it takes some getting used to and you do need to do some research on your class as well. But once you got that all down, s**t gets real.

If I had the time, I would honestly start playing again.

Do yourself a favour though and get a trial account, you can always upgrade it if you want to keep playing:

I was completely addicted for 5 years, I quit shortly after cataclysm though (due to boredom).

However, you won't be disappointed, nothing quite like it in my opinion.

Sadly, I don't think a game will ever be able provide me with the same amount of fun and level of interest, especially pre-TBC. I crave a Blizzard supported vanilla server

It's a massively fun game, and good value for money when you see how much play time you can get out of it (assuming you enjoy it). Give it a go, you get 30 days with the game.

Played for 6 years... from noob level to full power raids with top tier guilds (Now 2 years clean)

Easy to start dam hard to master but very addictive, in fact it can become so bad that it is capable of breaking up marriages to causing unemployment, but totally depends on your personality I guess.

Your line should be ok for normal dungeons and pugs but I dont see you signing up for hard core raiding. Either way its a game best played with friends.

Use a 15 day free trail and then decide.

This thread is slowly starting to sound like an Azeroth Anonymous meeting ;)

If I had the time I would probably be back faster than you can say renew. Also the fact that all my toons are on US accounts and I dont know any SA players helped me get off it.

Anyway, yes the game a very addictive :)

I have to agree with you, I miss it - a lot! If I also had the time (and didn't feel guilty about dropping some coin on a "game" every month) I would probably also go back in a heartbeat.

wow = amazeballs :D however, in moderation.. a lot of people on this forum can tell you how they spent 35hours from saturday to sunday playing wow... :)

Look at Guild Wars 2. It's launching soon and the betas I've played in was amazing. There aren't any monthly subs either.

Is Guild Wars 2 like World of Warcraft - online game play??

Judging from the response here, it sounds like WoW is really a good game. Another friend of mine says that Old Republic is better

It all depends on what you want from a mmo. TOR imho is kak, Rift is ok I'll see how GW2 pans out. In fact I'd rather prefer a modern mmo like cthulhu, shadowrun or vampire the masquerade. Secret world turned out to be another copy...

...going to run around in wow been feeling like returning for ages now.

I could be wrong but I think WOW is at its end, it was amazing for 3 years. I think if you are a new player you will find it amazing as well, but seems like the older players left due to all the changes. If you are new, go for it...if you have time :P

Correction:
I played for 6 years before I left almost 2 years ago and I didn't even play it the 1st couple of years. I started with the back then "gateway drug" called Guild Wars.

Saying it was amazing for 3 years only, is an understatement of the century :)

True, what I meant was, I played for 3 years and those 3 years was great!1 i only started in second expansion.

Played WoW on and off for 5 years.. Really enjoyed the early 'vanilla' days, skipped TBC and played the hell outta WotLK and Cata. Think if you want to get the most out of it at this stage then you gotta play with mates. You definitely need the time though. Once you get hooked, it will occupy most of your free time. You constantly look for new gear, better setups, easter eggs :D, exploration, achievements, events, etc etc.
