Right, take 4 IDSN lines multiplexed add infiniticall to each line we get R882.00 per month line rental.

Telkom ADSL 512 - R569.28

Online time is 8 days per month ie 2 days each weekend. On a 512 line that would equate to about 42GB per month.

Saol.com unshaped accounts comes to R5418 per month for the ADSL and R800.00 for the ISDN

Only thing left is the ISDN call charge which is R510.72 per month

So lets add it all up

ADSL = R569.28 + R5418.00 = R5987.28

ISDN = R882.00 + R800 + R510.72 = R2192.72

ISDN is cheaper than ADSL in this instance by R3794.56

Lekker, so much for Telkom's "supposed" heavy international link costs.

I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong...
Don't you get charge per channel on ISDN? If so, those call charges look a little to optimistic. Four channels surely can't compete with ADSL 512 in regards to preformance. My biggest gripe with ISDN, I'm paying for a service far less superior service then ADSL (192/386) for close to the same cost.

And when you work out bandwidth cost being connected 24/7 on ISDN?

The point to this is to actually show that Telkom is lying about the international cost of bandwidth in South Africa.

In ideal conditions (no disconnects when using infinitcall) you should be able to get about 24 GB a month for about R800-00 on a 128kbps line.....THATS WITH IDEAL CONDITIONS.

In my case I get about 22GB a month for about R1200-00 because of disconnects (SlowKom's fault I'm sure) . All Unshaped & uncapped. but of course its only 24/7 on weekends and 7pm to 7am weekdays. So really only for home use.

But overall its still better than ADSL in its current state (as of 1 November)

Btw that works out at about R55-00 a gig

Theres no real way to win in RSA with this lousy technology.
