Off the top of my head it's R300 odd

Rumour has it that infinicall has been cancelled for new subscriptions. Mine is still active.

Charges are the same as dial up

ISDN is at the end of the day pretty damn sloooooooow but it's better than analogue.

On that note - I've been experiencing a lot DNS failures over the weekend. Telkom blames MWeb who blames Telkom.

I think we can safely blame Telskum for that. I'm with a SAIX isp and the line was dropped about 8 times over the course of saturday.

....how to get more from the customer if they've got infinicall.......

i use ISDN 128K and i control my calls to only 64K over weekdays and 128K over weekends ( Friday 7PM -> Monday 6AM ).

i subscribed in June and was able to get infiniticall, its not advertised but its available.

luckily in my area i dont get problems with dropped lines and other issues with ISDN and i am using Mweb.

Thus far my costs :

Mweb - R275 ( 128KB ISDN )
Telkom - R230 ( rental )
Inifnitall - R70 ( approx. )

Usage depends on you of course.

I found it more than appropriate for gaming as i play BF2, WoW, Guild Wars, FEAR ( MP demo ), Dawn of War, Serious Sam, etc.

Just note that for WoW and GW i use Nukecap as from the 1st of August Telkom has butchered the latency to international servers quite badly. Sigh...

thanks useless, i guess that is on a home connection, does the infinicall apply to both 64 and 128 calls? What does it cap each call at for both 64 and 128? also, with nukecap what pings do u get on wow?
thanks

I have 64K ISDN line, and my ISP allows me to dial up via either IS or SIAX. I also have infinit call - yes you can get it as per many threads here, but just push Helkom rep.

When I dial in via SIAX I will have the line dropped round 00:00 to 02:00 Saturday morning and again later, IS though is very stable so tend to dial in to them.

I did a little costing for myself and worked out that if I went 192K ADSL and used SAOL's 10 Gig offering and dropped infinit call I would be paying over R 250 more than ISDN. On this note I have decided to stay with ISDN at present as it meets my needs for Skype, Internet streaming radio and downloads.

If you want to know about my ISP PM me, but it is neat being able to choose who to dial in to.

I have not looked back since choosing ISDN.

It caps both calls at infinitcall rates. Say you dial up with 128K so you would pay for 2 calls on Infinitcall.

And i use it for home use too. In WoW Nukecap brings the otherwise 3000-9000 ms pings to around 500-800ms. But its solid and playable. Same with Guild Wars... and to think i went ISDN just with WoW in mind with Telkom screwing the line over from the 1st of August...

sweet, it seems its time to persuade dad to get isdn! Only problem is he works from home and would prefer it to be on the business line, but that would just cost to much so i will have to do some really good persuation(i dont care bout spelling!) Useless plz tell me what modem you have, do all isdn modems allow you to choose whether to connect at 64 or 128?

Thanks
