Ok, so it seems I will be getting ISDN,
I will be getting the ISDN2a line so I will be able to either log on at 64k or 128k.

Now seeing as I would need an ISP I would ask you guys and gals!
One member of the forum said his ISP could connect to either IS or SAIX, I have PM'd him but their has been no reply.

So, what I would like to know....

1. Which ISP
2. If the account can connect at both 128k and 64k
3. If the account can let you choose IS or SAIX when you want to (diff username etc)

4. The price
5. Any extra info

It would be better if the ISP dial in number was a local number not 0860 as I am scared with infinite call not working

Thanks everyone

sorta off topic reply

okay ive had isdn2a for 6 years now. so here are some tips that u might wanna consider before jumping into an isp

if the price of the isp is a concern, then i just wanna point out *cough* unofficially that certain isps dont count the number of times u dial into their network, basically this means that u can pay for a 64k account and dial in as if u were connecting 128k and it would work.

then if ure a gamer then its gonna matter where u live and what exchange u dial into, for example if u wanted to play on a saix server and u live in bloem, u could dial directly into the pretoria exchange which effectively means a lower ping. same goes for mweb servers. if u live in pmb u could dial their jhb pop and reduce ur ping by up to 90ms. this does not work for all isps!

anyway hope this helps. gl.

Galdiator's point is quite valid, specially if you have issues with your line getting disconnected which can wreak havoc with Infiniticall.

And whatever you do AVOID dialing in before 7 PM as Telkom's charges are ridiculously atrocious...

Infinicall is only valid for a number you dial within a 50km radius, so not from durbs to JHB...

Correction infitnitcall works in SA on any landline and will be charged at a max rate of R 9 odd during call more time.

That's correct, I use stormnet and dial the Capetown POP from Durban. Latency used to be around 250ms to europe. I'm now changing ISP's as the latency has jumped to 390ms.

i used Datapro for years and had only one problem... Their durban number doen't support 128k, but joburg and capetown (The ones i know) do.

Edit

And the infitnitcall thing works for any land line with in SA so go ahead and call capetown from Durban... It will make u feel like u gettng ur moneys worth... Just don't forget to turn it off in the morning... Almost went off and forgot to turn it off at 7am... Could have been very bad to leave a call to joburg open for a whole day... shivvver....
