Hi All

I cannot seem to send email with my Outlook 2007, Telkom internet, email.

I keep getting a "server is not avaliable" message.:(

Does anyone know if there is an alternative to smtp.telkomsa.net ?

Mucho appreciated.

Btech

First, ping smtp.telkomsa.net by opening a command window - you should get a reply from 196.25.211.150

If you dont get a reply:

a) ...could not find host... = a DNS problem (change your mail setup to use the IP number directly - to confirm that is the problem)

b) No response = connectivity or firewall problem

If you do get a reply, open a command window and:

telnet smtp.telkomsa.net 25

You should get a welcome message from the smtp server. If you do, then the server and your connectivity is ok. Check your email software setup for spelling errors in the server name, etc.

If not chances are that a firewall is blocking access...or some anti-virus software on your computer.

Hope that helps.

how do i do that:confused:

Easiest way to do is do the following :

Go Start, Run

type in cmd (and press enter)

A dos prompt window will open

type in telnet smtp.telkomsa.net 25

if the telnet session times out, then you either have a DNS problem, or your firewall is blocking it.

Not all hosts will respond to ping commands.

If the telnet session is successful, you'll see a welcome notice and a login prompt.

Just close the window. :)
