I was hoping someone here could shed some light on an ADSL issue I have. I have the Telkom Netgear DG834GU router. I have the following configuration: External line from outside to two-way splitter. One end goes directly to the router and the other to the phone. Here is my dilemma. Everytime I switch on the router, the DSL light will flicker green and then stop flickering, then the INternet light will go red (assuming at this point authenticating ISP username and password). The red light never goes away and subsequently no internet (100% sure of ISP credentials!).

What I found is that when I start making a landine call (testing with 10210 since it is free from a landline), the DSL light will start flickering again and then stop on a continuous green light. Then the Internet light will become red again (authentication). Pretty much the same as previously with the exception that this time it goes green and I have internet. 6 out 10 times when I put the phone down, this process will happen again and it will authenticate and I have internet. THe other times the internet light will remain red with no internet.

I hope someone can explain to me why this is happening. Telkom cannot.

You didn't mention if a ADSL filter was installed to the phone. What happens when you unplug the phone from the 2 way splitter?.

No filter in the configuration. When I do put the filter in, the above workaround does not work at all and there is still no interent. If I take out the phone line from the splitter, the process starts again with no authentication happening and subsequently no internet.

Assuming it worked prior to your current problem Telkom need to come on site (with another router) and sort out the problem.

BTW, how's the voice line - any crackles or hum?

No crackles or hum. Voice line seems to be fine. So you think the best is to get them onsite and have a look? Could this potentially be a router problem?

Could well be the router, the good news is that as it's one of Telkoms they'll probably swap it out at no charge.
