ISP line speed?

I see that part of my ADSL login says this: @dsl512.isdsl.net

What is the 512 for? Does the ISP limit speed from their side? Reason I ask is because I am thinking of moving over to 4Mb line.

If you move to a 4MB line, your username should change afik.

No! its got nothing to do with Line speed!
