Hey Guys.

So I just got a notice telling me my monthly fibre subscription fee will be increasing from R499 to R679. I signed a 2 year contract with the ISP last year and it has only been a year. Are they allowed to increase my price like this in the middle of my contract period? Not to mention the ridiculous hike in price. The ISP is part of SADV.

Any information regarding this is much appreciated!! Thanks!

This sounds like Vox but I do believe there has been a price increase from SADV and if it's SADV then it's not the ISP becaise they are just passing on the increase.

It's interesting though because according to SADV and the ISP they are likely not on a contract basis the contract is between you and the ISP and their portion like the data did probably not increase.

yeah, sounds like vox and their annual 10% increase for their loyal customers, new customers that sign up have the normal price, then a year later they increase. don't know any other isp that does this. brilliant business plan.

Surprisingly this isn't Vox. I'm using BSit, Business Solutions. I can understand a small increase of 5 - 10%, but this is around 36% !

Can we ever expect fibre pricing to come down on the entry level speeds ?

Why do we pay different prices on Vumatel for different areas ?

Mitchells Fibre through Vumatel which only currently came onto the market is R399 for a 20/20 line , and I pay for Vumatel through one of the best priced Isps, namely Rocketnet R549 for a 10/2 - used to be about R450 for a 4/2 about two years ago until Vumatel scrapped the 4 speed line.

Damn good question. Maybe take Vumatel on about that....

And believe me it's not the ISP's that govern that line price.

If I may interject here, I live in Mitchells Plain where mitchells fibre is being deployed and they can justify charging us that lower rate as it is their business model in an impoverished area where barely anyone has adsl. Also we dont get the luxury of a wallbox or Raycore CPE. We get a Huawei ONT which functions as a wifi router as well and does so poorly. Correction: Its not a 20/20 line its a 20/10 and that line is our only option on a month to month basis. We do however want faster speeds. I myself would love a 50/50 line but alas mitchells fibre give me on even though the installers said the lines and the racks are capable of up to 2gbps per customer. So in conclusion we do pay less but for a much more restricted product.

Price increase on a 2 year contract of +- 30% i will also be pissed and move i do think that it is awesome to have some on online to assist like TheRoDent, i would love for my ISP to do this.

36% sounds a bit drastic... Howmuch is the price diff on the higher bundles ? maybe rather move to a higher bundle. Which cost the same. maybe it's only the lower package that has the "higher price change"

work out the price diff , 36% increase on your normal package vs Price difference going to the higher bundle.
Maybe it is minimal
