How come some ISP's can offer the SAIX 10Gig account for R350,and others offer it at R500 and upwards. Different pricing schedules? or are they just imitating MWEB's "target the user who doesn't know any better" marketing campaign?

Yes that makes sense to me .. if they all buy from Telkom why such big difference in price? .... tell me something, are you with OpenWeb?

Nope, I'm actually with Imaginet, but seriously thinking of going over to OpenWeb or SAOL, cause I can get 7 Gigs extra for an extra R100.I've tried to be loyal, but that is quite a big difference in the price, for a lot more product

its the real deal!

im on 10 gig saol, 100% functional, only "drawback" is 1 concurrent logon!

im on openweb 10gb saix, r349 and it works great! no authentication issues!

AFAIK a lot of the ISP's supplement the bandwidth they get from the saix adsl account by selectively routing from their own sources which may be cheaper - e.g. Datapro's "uncapped" static business dsl package supposedly does this - one of their helpdesk techs once told me that after the 3Gb cap is reached on the account, they start selectively routing via IS instead. Not sure of the finer details, though, but it may explain why they can still offer unlimited and high cap services. Judging by the way Datapro's uncapped static package seems to slow down at some point every month this seems feasible.

I think its likely that Telkoms offering some ISP s preferential packages.

Yip and it will become a mess again, and Telkom will start doing things again and it will **** up all the ISP's again

SAOL are paying exactly what was advertised before 1 November - the same as all the other ISP's - the difference is that we are trying to soften the blow for the consumer and take a smaller profit for ourselves - we believe the per gig pricing will inevitably drop in months to come and hope our clients will stay loyal to us in the future.

OpenWeb seem to be on a similair strategy while all the other ISP's seem to be making bigger profits.

In that case BIG UP to SAOL, unfortunatly im not a customer of yours... yet. As soon as i can get my father to change ISPs, i'll make sure we get an account at SAOL!

Yeah, I'm also on a 10GB SAIX OpenWEB account. It's awesome! And I believe it's decent value for money (all things considered). Works out to R35/GB but factor in the R93 analogue line and R359 (384k) ADSL charges and it's about R80/GB in total... That's a bit ridiculous! Bloody Telkom... Anyway, I don't believe a 10GB account is extravagant but a R800 bill definitely is! That's a good portion of my salary into internet every month... I shudder to think how people in a lower income bracket can afford this!

OK well good for SAOL then I was going to keep my 10 gig account anyway. Oh and my 3 gig telkom one as long as theyre not capping :D

you guys better enjoy this NON CAPPING policy of Telkoms, because it wont last. I have decided to stick with my smaller ISP, rather than supporting the devil. That is all Telkom is trying to do, they want to get rid of the smaller ISP's.
