Last year I made the biggest mistake by signing a 12 month 1GB contract with MWEB, i signed just because they gave a free modem.
A few months later I found this site and realised what a big mistake I had made. I pay R145 per month and if I go 10MB over my cap... guess what, I get capped:eek: almost every month i have had to boost and it is R99 for 1GB

So finally my contract ends soon and I need some help which are some questions I still have unanswered.

1. I have read that Telkom gives you 2x cap, so if you have a 2GB contract you will get capped at 4GB. Now firstly do you have to sign a contract with them or is it in a month to month basis? Secondly, do you think they will stop this leanient capping and cap you immiediatly in the future? And lastly If im hardcapped can I still do my online banking for example FNB?

2. Cybersmart seems to be the best value for money, are there any problems with them?

3. Webafrica and Openweb looks to be very reliable but Im especially intersted in openweb's openbrowse deal. If I take out their 2gb + 30 gb local openbrowse does this mean in a nutshell I have 2GB intl. downloading and 30gb intl. browsing?

Help would be appreciated, Thanks.

A: Telkom used to have a more relaxed capping policy, where people used to be able to get away with 18gb for the month on a 2-3gb account, however now as you say they double the cap on their 2gb and 3gb option, making it 4 and 6 gig effectively.

The 4 major banks + telkom.co.za and some saix forums and sabcnews.co.za are available once capped, not much else though/

A: Much as I hate to say it telkom are the best value for international as 2/3gb acc doubles your cap, if you want local then openweb/web africa seem to be the people to call.

A: Openweb accounts for local 2/30 gb deals are IS based, now IS doesnt differentiate between local / international traffic so the first 2gb on the above deal be it local/international will count for international, after that is used then the rest is all local.

Hope these answers helped.

Openbrowse down basically boil down to 28gb intl browsing. It is not the same experience as browsing direct though (it is a http proxy), it is slower and some sites have issues (I always had problems with GMail when i used openbrowse) but it does the job. Search for comments on openbrowse, you'll get a good picture of the pros and cons.

Thanks for your answers.

So I take I have 2 options:
Cybersmart (3GB)
Telkom (2GB) which gives me 4GB.
Is Telkom and Cybersmart on a month-to-month basis or do I have to take out a contract?

I read that if I take out a 24 month Telkom adsl contract I get a free wifi modem, is this true?

Dont take out contracts...rather do self install...some ISP offers free modems if u do self install.

And personally I would get telkom plus a backup account like webafrica prepaid. Dunno if it changed yet but cybersmart only wants u to have it as ur only ISP, if you run out of gigs u top up...

How can i do a self install if my line has already been installed?
My mweb contract is ending end of the month, so do i just call telkom for the SIO and I get a free modem..? I desperatly need a wifi modem but dont want to sign any contracts. Is this possible?
