I wonder if someone knows this out of interest.

After quite a journey I have given up on my current ISP and decided to move. There is only one FNO in our area (MTN) and therefore my new ISP will use the same infrastructure as the one I have just terminated, HOWEVER, where I had 200/200Mbps available with my previous ISP I now only have a max of 100/100 available. My understanding is that the new ISP offers 200/200 in other areas so I assume it is an FNO restriction of some sorts? Does anybody know how this works?

I am moving from Supersonic to Cool Ideas.

Yes line limits are sometimes imposed by the ISP, IE sometimes an ISP won't offer 1Gbps services as they are worried about it affecting their network. But most times its the FNO, I will follow-up and see if there have been any changes from MTN on line speeds.

Oh wow! Thanks for that!

So it looks like MTN added a 200Mbps package without notifying ISPs. Will update once I get more feedback.

Hi There. Any word on this yet? I am due to move end of the month and naturally would love to give this discussion a bump.

200Mbps package is available apologies for not providing the feedback :)

I am quite excited about this move now. Supersonic disconnected me 22:00 on Saturday evening and I am am signed up with Cool Ideas and ready to go. Just waiting on MTN to "switch me over". Does anybody know what this means? Is it a physical thing? I expected the same infrastructure (PON, router, fibre, etc) so this could just be a matter of new PPPoE credentials? Anybody know how long this could take?

I'll PM you a test account to try

Thanks. I tried it with no success - "Failed to authenticate to peer" - I guess I do have to wait for MTN :`(. Thanks for trying though PBCool. So far you guys have been great.
