Proposal for DStv's plan to block illegal streaming sites in South Africa

The Internet Service Providers' Association of South Africa (ISPA) has recommended considering Australia's model for blocking access to illegal online services.

However, it warned that any implementation of such a system should be considered against its myriad legal, regulatory, and implementation pitfalls.

Good god.... are these people for real. The ISPA has just today proven themselves to be a shill for DSTV and the ISPs.

Charles Reuvers, if you're reading this... GET BENT!

How do they propose policing who can take down websites/streams if not through a court?
Sounds like a nice way for competitors or some random guy to take down a big sports match stream or a competitors website at a critical time etc.

Sounds like a much bigger risk for legal sites than the effect it will have on pirate sites.

Well screw you monochoice...having to spend R120+ extra a month for VPN access to bypass your crybaby bullshyte, because you are incapable of running your business properly....and I will gladly do it....to throw you a zap with both hands.

I feel DStv should have the right to request ISPs to take down illegal content if consumers have the right to a full refund of their monthly subscription if DStv repeats content, with no limit of the amount of months refunds are requested. Should valid refunds not be made in less than 24 hours, a fine should be issued to DStv equal or no less than 10% of their global turnover

Whats to stop them from going after Netflix, F1 and MotoGP etc apps because they want total control of those views

1996 called, they want to know whats this VPN thing being talked about.

Multichoice really are a bunch of dumb people of epic proportions.

I mean the level of IQ must be like < 5 in that company...

Only figured this now? Every so-called consumer association has never been for the consumer.

In every country where this has been tried it has been abused to great extent.

Oh brother. I actually started to watch a movie on Showmax, was not happy with the picture quality. I had to go to my stash for the superior quality. So near, yet so far.
